Writer's block sucks. Without a prompt, without a deadline, I got stuck.
I decided to reverse my process and see if that'd unstick the stuck (or, as the case may be, the suck). I wrote a tune to see if it'd inspire lyrics. It didn't…
However, what I got was an instrumental track that, for me, is a tribute to my Jupiter 2 bandmates; Bob and Tom. Bob passed away the day after my last birthday. Bob was the first person (who was not in the military) that I met when I got stationed at Pease in 1984. We were friends from there on. He is responsible for my love of all things Garage Rock.
Tom has been in poor health for quite some time and went for a procedure, prior to Bob's passing. He has been unresponsive since. Heartbreaking.
2/5ths of Jupiter 2 are gone. 1/3rd? Depends on which lineup I suppose but the last show we played, at the Portsmouth Brewery for their 30th anniversary, it was six of us as Harlan drove back from Alaska and played guitar with us for the first time in forever, and Marc was on the Vox organ. Six of us that night and it was glorious. Rodger on drums, Bob on guitar, Tom on vocals and theremin, me on bass. As it should have been. A memory that will never be erased.
As this song developed it just gave me a Jupiter 2 vibe. It's pretty rudimentary (because, you know, I'm a bass player) but I dig it. I added both Vox and the Theremin when I decided it was going to be a farewell song for my friends.

The song is called CBT. Please, for the love of all that is holy, do not google that. In this context it stands for Cockboy and Tom; Cockboy being Bob's nickname. Bob would have thought the name was hilarious and I could hear his laugh when I settled on that name.
Instruments on this one are the Gretsch, the P Bass, the Vox, and the Theremin. Drums are from a new place called We Sound Human. Figured I'd give them a shot and downloaded a couple of their packs.
No lyrics to include so I'll just leave you with the demo. Please enjoy CBT (the song, not the disturbing activity - I swear if you google it you'll be sorry) and as you listen to this think of those that are dear to you. You never know when any of us will be done with this rollercoaster ride.
