Not gonna lie this was a tough one.
The prompt from Jeff this week was “drained, tired, worn out, exhausted, empty tank, last legs, dead on my feet, spent, out of steam -- anything that fits that feeling.” And this was before the election on Tuesday.
Challenge 1: I was traveling for work which makes the process a bit challenging for me. Not the writing, but the recording. I brought my Journey travel guitar with me so lyrics and chords were written in a hotel in Vacaville California.
Challenge 2: The election. The outcome is not what i wanted and frankly was a gut punch. The ‘winner’ is antithetical to everything I was taught, everything I believe. Please reference back to week 2…
For their own benefit
For their own purposes
They sow the fear
To keep the power they revere
There are very few inspirational people in politics these days so instead we get a sideshow clown. It's disheartening that many people were voting for economic reasons when there have been no concrete, executable economic policies outlined. On either side, to be fair.
Apologies for the diversion, but that's where my head is at.
I'm not in love with this song, but that's going to happen. I think there are things in here to expand on. The song was running a bit flat to me so I threw a key change at the last iteration of the chorus. Because, why not…
Also, draft 1 was super negative and I've had enough negativity this week so I spun it around to a bit more of a love song.
minimal instrumentation on this one due to time constraints. Hummingbird, P Bass and YurtRock drums.
Without further ado…. This is Reemerge
Patina is just another name for rusted
most days I'm done and dusted
And my dust is dry, clumped and crusted
Life is feeling a bit maladjusted
When I need a recharge
When I need a surge
I’ve got you
To help me reemerge
Wiped out, sleepy, need a nap
Tank is empty, and I might snap
I might need a chaperone
divided we stand; alone
You bring me back to the ground
You point me home
You’re all I need
You bring color to the monochrome
When I need a recharge
When I need a surge
I’ve got you
To help me reemerge
When I need a recharge
When I need a surge
I’ve got you
To help me reemerge
When I need a recharge
When I need a surge
I’ve got you
To help me reemerge
