It's a love song!
Because, you know, in my bio it states “every song is a love song… in some manner”
Most summers my wife and I take a week up in Vermont to visit friends. The area of Vermont is the area where much of my dad's family is from. I learned a couple of years ago that my great (or was it great-great?) grandfather was the town veterinarian in Calais VT.
Anyway, one of the first years we went up as we were driving north on Route 12 out of Montpelier I saw a road sign. It was Horn Of The Moon road. The name stuck with me, and I wrote a love song to my wife about it. Inspiration can come from anywhere if you're open to it. Not only is this a love song, it's a bit biographical for both Shari and me.

This recorded version is the Snapface one where again, the music came from us jamming and I wrote the words. I'm certain Bryce had the main music ideas throughout. I'm pretty sure I always intended this to be a duet so it's Rob and Shari trading verses, and lines in the chorus. This is the song I'm rewriting the music for (really just the verses) so that I can actually play it when Shari and I decide to hit some open mics. I love this version but it's not conducive to acoustic guitar in this form. The updated version will get posted here once we finish recording it.
Lyrics
Couldn’t color within the lines
Wasn’t good at being refined
Rather walk away than talk about the bad times
Indifference always undermines
Hang my heart
on the horn of the moon
Guiding light
the horn of the moon
Once I gave up searching I found it right in front of me
once I lost the yearning love came fast and free
Hang my heart
on the horn of the moon
guiding light
horn of the moon
Been knocked down a couple of times
harder and harder to get back up
found it easier with a bottle of wine
poured in a solo cup
Hang my heart
on the horn of the moon
guiding light
horn of the moon
Now the paths we’ve chosen to walk
begin to intertwine
and the scars that left their pock
identify you as mine
Hang my heart
on the horn of the moon
guiding light
horn of the moon
hang my heart
on the horn of the moon
guiding light
the horn of the moon
