Midweek bonus song (Sunrise)

The one song that Snapface got on the radio, thanks to our pal Roadkill who runs the Local Licks segment on our local radio station.  I uploaded the version with his talk up.

Sunrise was inspired by a Facebook post I made following the passing of Anthony Bourdain.  I'm rarely impacted by a celebrity's passing but I really dug Bourdain.  Finding out he unalived (what a dumb f'n term) himself did hit me.  Shortly before his passing my daughter went to a book signing of his in Manhattan and got me a signed version of his Appetites book.

Caitlyn meeting Anthony Bourdain and getting a book signed for me.

The lyrics include nods to his TV shows No Reservations and The Layover.  The song is a plea to not end it all and make it to one more sunrise.  One time when we played this live a guy in the crowd came up to me and told me his brother had committed suicide and that the song had touched him.  Isn't that why we do what we do?

Shari takes the lead vocals on this and it's one of my favorites that I've written.

Lyrics

There's value in you
but the monster will lie
It'll dim your sparkle
you'll be mummified

You'll feel crucified, horrified
Swept into the darkness as it amplifies

It's hard as hell to defy the beast
When he's got you down, your darkness increased
Stay away from the hopeless release
And another life left incomplete

No reservations in the afterlife
Layovers don't happen in paradise
Don't collapse on the altar of self-sacrifice
Stay up all night to see one more sunrise

What can we do but show we care
What can we do but just be there
It's OK you're not walking on air
Call a truce with your despair

No reservations in the afterlife
Layovers don't happen in paradise
Don't collapse on the altar of self-sacrifice
Stay up all night to see one more sunrise

(rippin' solo from Bryce)

No reservations in the afterlife
Layovers don't happen in paradise
Don't collapse on the altar of self-sacrifice
Stay up all night to see one more sunrise

No reservations (no reservations) in the afterlife
Layovers don't happen in paradise
Don't collapse on the altar of self-sacrifice
Stay up all night to see one more sunrise
